what is the metaverse?

The metaverse is a virtual world; a 3D space bringing users together in various aspects of their lives. It has the possibility of connecting multiple platforms all through one single browser. Think of it as the internet, but rather than accessing it through a computer you can enter it by using a VR headset and access the virtual world within. To check the advantages and disadvantages of the metaverse, check the link here.

Augmented reality will be the main driving force behind the functionality of the metaverse; with each person using new technology (like a virtual reality headset) to take part in a zoom-style work meeting as your own avatar, being able to chat with your colleagues in a virtual meeting room. Or you can relax and watch a film, play games or even manage your digital finances all inside the metaverse.

Examples that currently successfully exist are worlds like Decentraland (MANA); where users can own spaces of virtual land and build houses/cinemas/offices where people can actively advertise, watch films together and essentially anything else all within the MANA server. Already, purchasing this virtual land is becoming very expensive as the possibilities are almost endless; both for fun and business. We are, however, a very long way off a united metaverse virtual reality - but the concept and already released products are exciting examples of what is to come.
